Hard Stuff

January 1, 2018

“As animals, we walk the earth. As bearers of divine essence, we are among the stars. As human beings, we are caught in the middle, seeking to reconcile the paradox of how to make our way upon earth while striving for something more permanent and more profound.” BKS Iyengar

I’ve spent forty-two years pretty much stuck on how to make my way on earth, resisting that whole divine essence part because of stubborn beliefs that I can do all things alone, that I must show physical success, and that spirituality has to look like modern organized religion I’ve felt forced into but which doesn’t vibe with me. Even after finding great comfort when I started studying yoga several years ago I continue to resist a consistent practice; the stillness, the quiet scares me and my active, anxious vata nature. It feels weak to my warped mind. We all know that what is hardest for us is what we need most. As the new year rolls in I’m telling myself to remember where true strength lies and to focus more on that connection between earth and stars.

Happy New Year!
